Exterior refurbishment of Tewkesbury’s White Heron
White Heron gets a new coat for the winter
White Heron was in a sorry state when Lee visited her at her mooring on the banks of the River Avon at Tewkesbury Marina. Her owner Harry Yates and his daughter Sue called in ELITE Marine Services to take a look at her boat when the team announced their move into their new offices at the marina.
White Heron was a victim of previously poor craftsmanship and was suffering with severe flaking and peeling of varnish that hadn’t been tendered to for years.

Sue explains her story to Lee; “No one wanted to take on such a huge task in trying to restore White Heron. We’d been trying for over two years to find someone that could take the time to restore her to her former glory without any success. So when Lee said that ELITE Marine Services would be able to help I was absolutely overjoyed.”
The ELITE team set about completely sanding down the exterior of White Heron, stripping away all the old varnish, taking it right back to the wood. Once this had been completed the wood was restored with a freshly applied coat of varnish.

The refurbishment of White Heron took over four weeks to complete, but this time it’s been completed properly, as Lee explains;
“When we first visited White Heron it was clear that in pervious treatments to the wood that varnish had been applied and reapplied coat over coat. The previous coats of varnish hadn’t been sanded down and removed which didn’t really protect the wood or leave her looking very nice either.”

Sue was delighted with the finished result; “I am really happy with the work ELITE carried out to my boat - she looks wonderful, just like when we first had her. The boys worked really hard and gave their best advice throughout the whole process. I was really pleased they took on the project and made such a good job of it.”
