When you buy a boat, whether it’s new or pre-owned you want to buy with confidence. So when you find the boat of your dreams it’s time to call in the experts to make sure it doesn’t turn into a horrible nightmare.

Whether you’re buying from a dealer or privately it’s sensible to have a survey carried out by an accredited marine surveyor. Before you part with any money the surveyor will carry out a detailed inspection of the boat you’re looking to buy.

Whilst the service log is a great place to start, it should never be solely relied upon when it comes to engine condition. The pre purchase inspection will cover every electrical and mechanical check to your boat, test all the systems including water, lighting, heating and air conditioning as well as thoroughly examining the engines and generator. The report will identify any possible problems you might face following the purchase of the boat. Additionally we will test to see if all controls and instruments perform as they should and report back on any faults identified.

The report will allow you to make an informed decision. If the boat does not pass all the tests it does not necessarily mean you should rule out purchasing it, but the results of the inspection allow you to make an informed decision and alert you to any areas which you might need to spend time and money rectifying.

On completion of the inspection you will receive a full report detailing passes and failures in each category, a description of the fault and a suitable resolution. The report can be emailed or posted and works as a supplement to a survey to help you build a better picture of the history of the boat you’re thinking of buying.

It’s important that the surveyor you choose is accredited and whilst we don’t offer surveys ourselves we can recommend surveyors we work with regularly to provide a survey for you.
